Nurturing young lives through educational play

Greenglade offers thoughtfully designed indoor and outdoor facilities inspired by Scandinavian Forest School principles.

Helping Under 2's develop and learn about themselves

We have a dedicated Baby Room and two Toddler Rooms within our Under 2s unit, all conveniently located on the ground floor of the Nursery. Baby Room, Toddler 1 and Toddler 2 are all accessed via the entrance at the top of the ramp through the gate in the car park.

In our Baby Room, we carefully follow each child’s individual routine, based on the information shared by parents during the initial visit and through the 'Getting to Know Me' form. This helps us create a nurturing and familiar environment where babies feel safe, secure, and settled.

Our two Toddler Rooms follow a similar daily routine and have access to the same high-quality resources. However, activities and experiences are tailored to reflect the children’s individual interests and developmental stages. Each room has its own dedicated team of practitioners, meaning that once your child transitions from the Baby Room into a Toddler Room, they will remain with their familiar team until moving on to our Over 2s unit. Below is an overview of our daily routine and what you can expect from your child’s day with us.

Creating routines & promoting personal growth

In our Under 2’s Room, we create engaging learning experiences based on each child’s individual interests, supporting them to develop at their own pace while gently introducing new opportunities to explore.

At Greenglade, we provide a safe, nurturing environment where children can move freely and confidently. Our space includes a play gym, outdoor area, and a variety of toys and sensory experiences designed to spark curiosity and support early development, giving your child the best foundation to grow and thrive.

See what our Over 2’s Rooms have to offer

Our Over 2s children are based in our spacious room on the top floor of the Nursery which can be accessed via the front entrance. As your child settles into the room, they will be assigned a dedicated Key Person from our experienced core team. The Over 2s ratio is 1 adult to every 5 children.

Within our Over 2s unit, we focus on developing children’s independence, confidence, and self-esteem. We encourage children to make choices, take responsibility for their belongings and actions, solve problems, and communicate effectively with others. Through exploration, play, and hands- on learning experiences, children continue to develop physically, emotionally, socially, and creatively while building a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Forest School for 2 year olds

The Over 2s room is also where our exciting Forest School journey begins. Each day, small groups of children are taken to our dedicated Forest School site by members of our experienced team. Here, children have the opportunity to explore and enjoy the wider outdoor environment, just as our older children do. Please visit the Forest School section of the website to find out more about these exciting experiences.

Potty training support

Potty training is often introduced during a child’s time in our Over 2s, with child-sized toilets, potties, and changing facilities available to support every stage of the journey. We take a gentle, child-led approach and never place pressure on children before they are ready.

When you feel your child is ready to begin, our team will work closely with you to provide consistent support between home and nursery. If your child is not yet ready, there is no need to worry, as we will continue to support them at their own pace. Our experienced staff are also happy to offer advice and guidance on signs of readiness and next steps.

Explore our Pre-School

Your child is now ready to begin the final stage of their Nursery journey within our Preschool Unit. Preschool is located across two rooms in our Outdoor Learning environment, allowing for free-flow access to their dedicated outdoor space. The ratio in Preschool is 1 adult to every 8 children. Children attending Preschool have the opportunity to attend either our Preschool setting, Forest School, or a combination of both. Nursery funding can be used across both sites. While children may split their time between Preschool and Forest School, allocated days are fixed and can only be changed in exceptional circumstances.

Our Preschool environment is designed to nurture, support, and inspire children’s natural curiosity and love of learning. We aim to promote children’s personal development while encouraging respect for themselves, others, and the environment around them.

Preschool practitioners work closely alongside our Forest School team to ensure continuity in learning, routines, and expectations for children who attend both settings. Children are encouraged to explore the outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions, unless weather conditions present a health and safety risk. This allows them to experience seasonal changes first-hand and develop a deeper understanding of the natural world. Preschool children may enjoy local walks within the community or spend time exploring and learning within the nursery garden.

Engaging with your child's interests

Engaging with your child's interests

Children’s individual interests are at the heart of our curriculum and are used to inspire creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, social interaction, and skill development through meaningful play experiences. We provide a balance of child-led opportunities alongside carefully planned adult-led activities to support all areas of learning and development.

Each child is supported through personalised challenges and experiences linked to their interests, developmental stage, and identified next steps in learning. Our adult-led activities are designed to build confidence, independence, resilience, and emotional awareness, while supporting children to develop positive relationships and communication skills. These experiences help children strengthen both their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, creating strong foundations for future learning.

What to bring to our Nursery

Each child has their own individual storage box within the room where their belongings are safely kept during their time at nursery.

We kindly ask that children bring a small bag to nursery each day containing:

  • Spare clothing (vests, t-shirt, trousers, socks, and underwear). Please ensure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name to help prevent anything from being misplaced. As we enjoy lots of messy and creative play, we recommend not sending your child in their best clothes.
  • Comfort items your child may need, such as a dummy, blanket, or teddy.

When your child starts nursery, we ask that you also provide the following items to remain at setting where needed:

  • A water bottle or cup that your child is comfortable using
  • Nappy cream (if required)
  • Wellies (for mobile children)
  • Hat and gloves (autumn/winter months)
  • Sun cream (spring/summer months)
  • Sun hat (spring/summer months)

We provide all outdoor waterproof suits for children to use during outdoor play when needed, as well as waterproof foot covers for non-mobile babies. Nappies and wipes are included within the daily fees. If your child has any individual requirements, please speak to a member of the team so we can support them appropriately.

Children sit together to enjoy freshly prepared homemade meals. We encourage independence at mealtimes, with children feeding themselves where possible and practitioners providing support when needed. Drinks are served in Tommy Tippee cups.

Older toddlers preparing for the transition to the Over 2s room are encouraged to self-serve by pouring their own water into open cups and serving food onto their plates. If a child does not wish to eat the main meal, an alternative option will always be provided.

Sleep and rest time

After lunch, children are offered a restful sleep on comfortable nursery mattresses, with all bedding provided. We understand that every child’s sleep routine is different, and we are happy to continue individual sleep patterns, including two naps a day if needed.

For children who do not sleep during this time, or who wake earlier, calm activities are available to enjoy while their friends rest. Once awake, children are offered milk and a snack before returning to play in their smaller groups.

Learning through play

Children are grouped, where possible, with their Key Person. Preschool is divided into two indoor learning spaces, The Nest and The Burrow, as well as an outdoor learning area. Each group begins the morning in one of these environments, taking part in adult-led activities alongside opportunities for independent, child-led play.

One group will also access outdoor learning, either in the garden or on local outings. Preschool children regularly enjoy visits to local woods, shops, and farms, helping them build real-world experiences and a deeper understanding of their community.

On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, children also have the opportunity to learn French with our visiting French teacher, Claire.

Lunchtime

Meals are served at the tables, and children are encouraged to be independent by helping to set the table and serving their own meals and drinks.

After eating, children take responsibility for tidying up, scraping leftovers into the food bucket and placing washing- up items into a basket to return to the kitchen. This supports their sense of responsibility and teamwork.

Following lunch, children enjoy free-flow play before regrouping for the afternoon session.

Safe environments for quality sleep

We follow clear safer sleep practices to ensure all babies and young children rest comfortably and securely. Children are always placed to sleep safely in their own individual sleep space on a firm, flat surface, in line with current safer sleep guidance. Sleep spaces are kept free from toys, pillows, cot bumpers, and other unnecessary items, and we carefully monitor room temperatures to ensure children remain comfortable. Babies’ heads are always kept uncovered, and appropriate bedding or sleep bags are used according to age and guidance.

All sleeping children are regularly checked and remain within sight and hearing of practitioners, with babies under six months directly supervised in the same room while sleeping. Our team follows up-to-date safer sleep guidance, including NHS recommendations and advice from The Lullaby Trust, to ensure best practice is consistently maintained. All practitioners working with children under two years receive Safer Sleep Training.
