The food we eat

Providing the fuel for fun

At Greenglade, we want children to explore different foods and find different things they like. So we encourage them to try new things and learn something new about themselves. We also like to let them help make food with safe cutlery to help them develop fine motor skills!

Freshly prepared, nutritious meals

We are passionate about providing children with fresh, nutritious, and wholesome meals every day.
We never serve pre-prepared or ready-made food. Every meal is freshly made from scratch each day using high-quality
ingredients in our professional on-site kitchen, proudly awarded a Five Star Environmental Health rating.

Our menus are carefully planned and regularly reviewed to reflect the changing seasons, alongside the individual needs
and preferences of our children. We actively welcome feedback from parents, children, and staff to help us continually
enhance the dining experience we provide.

Hot meals are also transported to our Forest School setting, ensuring every child enjoys the same nutritious food
wherever they are learning. Parents are always welcome to view our kitchen facilities.

Supporting every child’s individual needs

Supporting every child’s individual needs

We are committed to meeting the needs of every child and can provide alternative menus for a wide range of dietary requirements, including medical, religious, ethical, and cultural preferences. Families who wish to continue breastfeeding are fully supported, with secure refrigeration arrangements in place for the safe storage of expressed breast milk. Formula milk is also provided free of charge.

When it comes to weaning, we believe in working closely in partnership with parents. We support all approaches to weaning, including baby-led weaning, and our experienced staff are always available to offer guidance and reassurance throughout the process. New foods are only introduced in line with parents’ wishes, and our kitchen team works closely with staff and families to ensure every child receives appropriate meals during each stage of weaning.

Learning through food & mealtimes

Food and mealtimes form an important part of our learning experiences. We believe that preparing, cooking, and sharing meals together helps children develop valuable life skills, confidence, independence, and social awareness. Our Preschool children regularly bake and take part in preparing and serving food for themselves and others, while younger children are also encouraged to participate in food preparation and serving activities both indoors and within our Outdoor Learning Area.

We encourage children to explore a wide variety of foods, flavours, colours, and textures to help develop healthy eating habits and adventurous tastes. Through tasting activities and cooking experiences, children regularly enjoy a range of fruits, vegetables, fish, and other nutritious foods.
