The star attraction was a "cherry picker". Undeterred by the noise of the chainsaws our children watched from a safe distance and then drew pictures of the tree surgeons and the "cherry picker" recognising the letters and numbers written on its sides. We talked about why some of the branches and trees had to be removed and why it was important to look after nature. We have deliberately not cut the identified trees down to ground level. But have left them standing safely three or four metres high, so that they can provied homes for insects and birds. When the workers had finished they showed our children branches and hollow stumps where there were lots of insects hiding
